Weekly Newsletter for 2/21/14

Dear Room 4 Families,

Our upcoming field trip to CuriOdyseey on Thursday, March 2oth is fast approaching! Please make sure that you have completed and signed the permission slip and have returned it to school. Your child may not attend the field trip without a signed permission slip by a parent or guardian. If your child requires an arrangement to bring a car seat to school on the day of the field trip, please contact me. Our field trip chaperon list has been sent to district, no further chaperons/drivers can be added to the field trip at this time.

Our weekly homework packet includes an online portion that needs to be completed. If you are having trouble configuring your computer, please let me know and I will be happy to help. Your child can also stay after school to complete their homework in the classroom. This should not take more than 15 minutes once they learn how to use the computer. 

English Language Arts

Working on: -ful/-less suffixes,  homophones, reality/fantasy, brainstorming ideas for writer’s workshop, and writing a narrative paragraph.

Math
Currently on: Topic 14 – Data and Graphs. Please continue reviewing math facts and regrouping with your child.

Chinese
Current Textbook Lessons: Shuang Shuang 3.1, Better Chinese Lesson 15
Things we did:

• Practiced our reading with cooperative groups to record Vokis.
• Wrote a paragraph describing body parts.
• Learned and used the vocabulary for prepositions (ie. this/that) and antonyms (ie. big/small)
• Using flash cards to review and maintain our past dictation words.
• Practiced our dictation words, different variations of reading aloud, writing, singing songs, searching for our vocabulary words in our text.

Etcetera

Room 4 could use some:

• Reams of white copy paper
• Gallon size ziplock bags
• Boxes of tissues
• A can of compressed air
• Any new or gently used items to be given away as prizes for our raffle
• Cardboard paper towel and toilet paper tubes
• Intact egg crate boxes
• Soft plastic lids from any large tubs/containers (yogurt, butter, ice cream, hummus, sour cream, etc.)
