Dear Room 4 Families,
This week sure went by quickly! It was great getting to meet you at Back-To-School Night on Tuesday. The information and policies that I discussed are under the “information” tab on the top of my webpage. This week your child was assessed for their Mandarin oral proficiency via the SOPA test. They also had an exciting day of meeting many teachers today during our Lab Site lesson where they learned the routines and developed their critical thinking for reading comprehension.
We have finished our narrative writing unit and will be starting informational writing in our “All About” unit next week. In math we are still working on place value to 100 and the skills associated with using place value to develop number sense, problem solving, and computation with multiple methods.
In English Language Arts, we introduced the listen to reading portion of our independent reading, Please look at the ClassDojo Class Story wall for instructions on how to access your child’s account.
Progress reports will be handed out in the middle of next week. Please let me know if you would like to request a conference to discuss your child’s progress in 2nd grade and the times that you are available to meet. I will try my best to accommodate you.
There is NO SCHOOL next week on Friday, October 16th due to staff development. Please plan accordingly.
This year Halloween falls on a Saturday. Friday, October 30th is a regular school day. No costumes are allowed at school. Your child can wear their costume to the PTA Boo Bingo event later that day. To show Halloween spirit, students and teachers have the option to wear black and orange clothing. Classrooms may also choose to celebrate by having a party at the end of the day. Yvonne Lee is currently seeing volunteers and donations towards a class craft, party, and/or Halloween rotations if there is enough parent interest. Please contact her for more details.
