Weekly Newsletter for 8/23/13

Dear Room 4 Families,

We are off to a wonderful start this year! Your child has had a wonderful first two days of school. We start on our regular bell schedule on Monday, and your child will go directly to their first music and library class for this year. Ms. Rubino, our librarian, will pick up Room 4 students from our line on the playground.

Our prep schedule is as follows:

Monday/Tuesday 8:15 – Music/Library

Friday 1:05 – PE

This week we started a few getting to know each other activities. We had a class discussion where we compared and contrasted first and second graders. We wrote sentences about the first day of school and drew a self portrait. After learning how to use our work folders, we learned the routine for our morning work, which is to be completed first thing in the classroom each morning. Room 4 students learned about our classroom rules, expectations, and routines.

For math, we started on Topic 1 – Understanding Addition and Subtraction. We will continue our math lessons next week with our math video, group instruction, and independent work. Please check your child’s backpack for returned papers.

In Chinese, we started learning our calendar routine. We also reviewed basic school words, requests, fruits, and colors. We started making our Chinese dictionaries, which we will use for our writing this year.

It is very important that I have an e-mail address from you this year so I can add you to our classroom management website http://www.classdojo.com and so that I can inform you about any issues that arise during the school year. If you haven’t already, please remember to send your child home with the completed forms from the 4 packets that were sent home on the first day of school.

If you are available to come to Stonebrae to help staple workbook pages, please let me know.

Also, many students still do not have a pencil box. Please make sure your child has a large (cigar box) sized pencil box for his/her supplies.

I am always available via e-mail, so please do not hesitate to contact me with your comments, questions, or concerns.

Have a fun weekend and let’s come back to school on Monday ready to learn!

Sincerely,

-Ms. You
