Weekly Newsletter 10/18/13

Dear Room 4 Families,

Thank you for all of your donations this week towards our Halloween parties and activities. Today we had a story building presentation from Berkeley Repertory Theater. Your child participated in listening to “My First Chinese New Year” and learned about the components and structure of the story through discussion, movement, brainstorming, and acting. Each child worked in small groups to depict a scene from the book and thought of a line to say in front of the class.

Announcements

  • Check your child’s backpack for returned papers. Take note of anything with a check mark or an “incomplete” on it, as your child needs additional help or practice.
  • Things left in the classroom/lunch boxes  go to the lost and found on Friday. Please label your child’s belongings with their name and room number to facilitate their speedy return!
  • Minimum day on Thursday 10/31 for Halloween, and NO SCHOOL on Friday 11/1. Students may not bring props that are weapons, that make noise, or cover their face (masks). If your child chooses to bring a costume to school to wear, it needs to be something they can put on independently by themselves over their regular clothes. They will not be allowed to go to the bathroom to change. Please consider these restrictions when sending your child to school with complicated costumes, jewelry, makeup, etc.

Volunteers, etc.

  • Weekly volunteers to run small groups (reading, math, centers, etc.) are needed. Please contact me if you can make a weekly commitment. If you have some free time and would like to come in to help file or help in the classroom, I will try my best to accommodate you. 24 hour notice beforehand is highly preferred!
  • Our classroom could use some: white cardstock, gallon sized ziplock bags, two-prong brads, white paper plates (with scalloped edges, the cheap ones), tissue boxes, and reams of white paper.

Have a wonderful weekend!

-Ms. You
