Weekly Newsletter for 3/28/14

Dear Room 4 Families,

Room 4 students had an eventful week with writer’s workshop, finishing up projects, and playing fun math games!

There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, March 31st in observance of Cesar Chavez Day.

English Language Arts

Working on:  contractions,  pronouns, adverbs, irregular plural nouns, homophones, and opinion writing.

Math

We are currently on Topic 17 – Three-Digit Addition and Subtraction. Please review regrouping with your child!

Chinese
Current Textbook Lessons: Shuang Shuang 3.3, Better Chinese Lessons 16, 17
Things we did:

• Wrote about our favorite sports in our journals.
• Watched the videos from our Better Chinese online curriculum
• Practiced new grammar patterns using new and known vocabulary
• Learned how to write our dictation words in stroke order
• Learned about the plant cycle and plant parts.
• Using flash cards to review and maintain our past dictation words.
• Practiced our dictation words, different variations of reading aloud, writing, singing songs, searching for our vocabulary words in our text.

Etcetera

Room 4 could use some:

• Reams of white copy paper
• Gallon and snack sized ziplock bags
• Boxes of tissues
• Plain band-aids
• Any new or gently used items to be given away as prizes for our raffle
• Cardboard paper towel and toilet paper tubes
• Soft plastic lids from any large tubs/containers (yogurt, butter, ice cream, hummus, sour cream, etc.)
