Weekly Newsletter for 5/1/15

Dear Room 4 Families,

This week your child participated in a week of poetry. We studied various types of poems and examined the structure, meaning, and word choice in a poem. They wrote their own poems in their poetry book and tried their best to be creative. We have been working on rotating independently in our Daily 5 centers and being responsible for our own learning. In math, we have started the concepts for regrouping and decomposing up to the hundreds place in subtraction. Also, we have been practicing for our Mandarin showcase with Mr. Chen and Mrs. Murayama.

Next Friday, we will have an in-class presentation from the Aquarium of the Bay where all 2nd graders will have a chance to learn about water conservation and about sea creatures.

Today your child took home two important documents. One is the field trip permission slip for CuriOdyssey on Friday, May 15th. Your child needs to have their permission slip returned to me by Wednesday, May 13th. Students who do not submit a complete permission slip will not be attending and will stay in another classroom on the day of the field trip. Please read the letter carefully and fill in each field that has an asterik next to it. If your child has no allergies/medication, please write in “none” in the blank spot.

Your child also brought home an assignment sheet for the famous American project, along with a poster board with a cut out for the head. Please help your child select an appropriate American to research, check their work, and practice their short oral presentation. If you have lost the assignment sheet, please refer to the link here: https://graceyou.com/second-grade-famous-american-biography-project/

Here are the homework links for next week’s homework:

Room 4 could use some more boxes of tissues. Your children have been very sniffly lately! Thank you to the families that have been donating boxes to our class.

Also, there is no Mandarin homework club next week (5/7/15) for 2nd graders.

Have a great weekend!

-Ms. You
