Dear Room 4 Families,
Your child had a blast on our field trip to CuriOdyssey today. They researched an animal for their informational writing assignment, experimented with building bridges and testing their design by seeing how much weight they could hold, visited animals that live in California, and explored hands-on science exhibits. Thank you for your donations of money and time to make this field trip happen!
This week in school we have been working on regrouping 3 digit numbers with adding/subtracting, and have started a unit on measurement/data/analysis. We will be moving onto multiplication soon. Please continue to help your child by having them add multiple numbers such as 12+34+11+28. We have moved into our informational writing unit and we are learning how to extract relevant facts from text as well as researching information from multiple sources.
As the end of the school year wraps up, we are focusing on preparing your child for 3rd grade. This includes having strong number sense and math concepts, working cooperatively and efficiently in groups, lifting our level of writing, and writing grammatically correct sentences in Mandarin using memorized vocabulary.
Tuesday, May 19 is Open House and we will be on a minimum day schedule with dismissal at 1:00pm. I welcome you and your child to come see what we have been working on in Room 4 as well as look at other 3rd grade classes. The science fair starts at 5pm and Open House starts at 6pm.
The Spring Concert will be held on Wednesday, May 27th at promptly 6:30 pm. Students need to arrive before 6:30. SOPA testing for our class will be on Friday, May 29th. The Mandarin Showcase will be held on Friday, June 5th, which is also the date of our field day.
If you are interested in seeing your child’s Spring picture, please stop by after school or send me an e-mail and I will send them home in their backpacks for you to see.

Have a wonderful weekend!
-Ms. You
Good evening Ms. You, The movie I sent with Bryan today is for you to enjoy. It is not appropriate for the entire class. I was amazed at the effort it took to travel home and Vanessa actually had to travel during Chinese New Year so we both enjoyed.
On a side note, I have obtained a number of US road atlases and would love to distribute them to your class. We are always using smart phones or car GPS screens to search our way around and I feel map reading skills will diminish over time. I would love to deliver a short presentation/geography lesson to the class and have the children find things around the US in their new atlas. I would probably need about 30 minutes. We could tie it in with one of your lessons if appropriate. Let me know at d.j.fuller.ca@gmail.com
Sorry to leave the message here, but could not find a link to an email for you.
