Weekly Newsletter for 9/25/15

Dear Room 4 Families,

Your child had a wonderful time learning about their carbon footprint and the impact that they have on the Earth. Your child learned about how global warming is affecting the Earth and the creatures that live on it, including themselves.  Your child had the opportunity to do a science experiment to see how global warming affects the polar ice caps and they got the opportunity to visit with some fun sea creatures and learn about them.

This week we started switching for ALD/ELD. Room 4 students will be doing writer’s workshop during their ALD time with Room 8 and Room 27 students. We are currently working on personal narratives and building the habits and routines to be good writers.

We continued studying long vowel spelling patterns and studied various genres of text and examined their story structure. In math we are continuing with Unit 2 – Place Value to 100. This includes addition, subtraction, fact families, and general concepts of manipulating numbers such as decomposing, doubles, number lines, using multiple methods to solve a problem, and friendly 10s.

As a friendly reminder, our Back to School Night has been rescheduled to October, 6th from 5:00-5:30pm. The rest of the school will have Back to School Night on the regularly scheduled date.

I will be out of the classroom next week from Tuesday-Thursday. I will try my best to respond to your messages in a timely manner when I am back at school on Friday. Please redirect any immediate concerns to the office during this time.

If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom or chaperoning a future field trip, please make sure to sign up on the google doc so that I can plan accordingly: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VughNO6UQoawxhe6t5CsDB3n68h3ZmgMIBUmAdhWYVA/edit

This year clasroom pictures may be posted on the ClassDojo “Class Story” tab or via a private online album. If you would not like pictures of your child included, please let me know. In the interests of preserving privacy for our children and families, please do not post pictures of other students publicly on Facebook, etc.

Here are next week’s homework links:

Have a great weekend!
