Weekly Newsletter for 10/21/16

Dear Room 4 Families,

This week your child may have less points in ClassDojo because we had 3 sub days. No points were awarded on Monday and Friday.

In English Language Arts this week, we have been studying the story structure of personal narratives and looking at the elements to incorporate into our own writing. We have also been working on learning the routines for our word study centers. During our Writer’s Workshop, your child has been writing their own personal narratives and will soon select from their completed works to go through the editing and final draft phase of the writing process.

For math, we are working on place value concepts in addition and subtraction. We have been focusing on math vocabulary, decoding word problems, and multiple problem-solving strategies. We have been learning how to use Front Row for math assignments, assessment, and math fact practice. It is an individualized learning program that assesses where your child is at and delivers personalized instruction at their level.

Next we will have a Halloween celebration on Friday from 1:55-2:45pm. If your child is wearing a costume, please remember that they need to be able to change themselves. Any props or distracting pieces should be left at home. Masks, weapons, and inappropriate attire is not allowed per school policy. If you are planning to bring extra treats to pass out to the class, please let me know ahead of time so that I can accommodate them into our tight schedule. Our room parent has e-mailed you regarding donations and volunteering for those who may be interested in helping out that day.

Here are next week’s homework links:

Have a great weekend!

-Ms. You
