Dear Room 4 Families,
We had such a fun time learning and exploring at CuriOdyssey yesterday. A big thanks to everyone that helped make this field trip possible especially the parent chaperones who helped the trip run smoothly. We are so grateful for their help in leading their students to take notes for the animal research project, making sure the students eat their lunch, and keeping them safe. If you have any photos from the field trip to share, please send them to me.
Please have your child turn in their signed progress report on Monday if they haven’t done so already.
This week in English Language Arts…
We have been learning how to make inferences in non-fiction text. We have been reading non-fiction books about various animals to learn facts and practice making inferences to help with our writing project. We have also been working on en/on spelling patterns, suffixes (-ed, -ing, s, etc.), compound words, and homophones.
This week in Writing…
We have been researching our animals for our all about project by using multiple sources. Last week we have been learning from an encyclopedia and this week we have been learning about animals through various webpage and internet sources. The research groups are learning online with Nearpod, which is an app that is similar to PowerPoint where I can add in specific webpages and videos for the students to browse and also control what they are viewing.
This week in Math…
We have been learning how to add 3-digit numbers. We have also started to learn about adding on to subtract with larger numbers. Next week we will be starting subtracting 3-digit numbers with regrouping.
This week in Chinese…
We completed the first review week on posture/position and transportation. Next week we’ll review shopping and weather. In Writing we’ve been writing and tweaking our narrative writing and will wrap it up next week. In Social Studies we wrapped up the Mulan unit with a fun sequencing activity.
