Weekly Newsletter for 5/25/18

Dear Room 4 Families,

Can you believe there are just 13 days left in this school year? Students and teachers are all excited about the summer break.

Before the year is over, I want to thank every parent volunteer this year. Whether you contributed your manpower or donated to our classrooms, both Mr. Chen and I really appreciate your support. If you volunteered and/or contributed to either class in any capacity, please join us on Wednesday, 5/30 at 1:30pm for the Volunteer Tea. Childcare will be provided. You don’t need to RSVP; just show up! It’s a small way for us to show our appreciation to all of our volunteers.
This week in English Language Arts…
We have been working on making inferences, double consonants when adding suffixes, author’s purpose, and distinguishing subgenres of text.
This week in Writing…
We have been continuing on with our All About with Research adding information about predators, diet, size, and other fun facts as well as starting our “sloppy copy” with our groups.
This week in Math…
We have been practicing subtraction situations with numbers up to 1,000 with and without ungrouping.
This week in Chinese…

We finished review week #2 and will have assessment next week. The best way to prepare your child for the assessment is to keep reading Chinese books like on iChineseReader. In Science we are working on memorizing the water cycle. In order to prepare for the Science assessment, your child needs to be able to say and show the Plant Life Cycle and the Water Cycle. As for the Social Studies assessment, your child needs to be able to describe the weather based on a weather chart. They will also need to remember some key ideas in the Mulan history. In Writing most students finished their first narrative story and have started on the second piece. We’ll wrap in up next week and return to All About Writing to end the year.
