Weekly Newsletter for 4/5/19

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

Your child had a fun week participating in our Spirit Week activities. In this week’s Friday Folder, information about Pennies for Patients and a coin collection box was sent home. Your child can turn in coins into the classroom and take their empty box back to refill if your child has filled up the box before the due date. As always, participation in the fundraiser is optional.

Also in this Week’s Friday folder, your child has the information sheet for the Famous American Biography Project, which is due on Friday, April 26th. Your child was sent home with a poster board today. This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

Your child has been learning about the “au/aw” spelling pattern, working with compound words, homonyms, using context clues, and making inferences. This week in writing, your child has been working on structuring their small moment writing and have started writing the beginning, middle, and end of their writing pieces.

This Week in Math…

We have started our unit on time. Your child has been identifying the time up to the the nearest 5 minutes. We are also learning about am/pm and what activities we are doing in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

This Week in Chinese…

In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions; shapes, time; and currency. We reviewed some math concepts in Chinese and introduced Lesson 9 including vocabulary, phrases, dialogs, and the passage in class. We did the bell work, read digital books, practiced character strokes, tried to make complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, learned mini-lessons from mystery science, and their scientific terms in Mandarin. We also learned the terms about our community and surrounding as well as continued to read stories about Chinese culture and tradition.
