Weekly Newsletter for 10/25/19

Dear Room 4 Families,

I hope everyone had fun at the Haunted Husky Harvest last night. Your child is very excited for Halloween and we have been working on thematic projects this week to celebrate the upcoming holiday. A big thank you to the parents who have been able to donate towards our snack mix celebration.

Next week we have a minimum day on Thursday, October 31st and No School on Friday, November 1st. Please plan accordingly.

Field trip sign-ups will be closing next Friday, November 1st at 3pm. We currently have 11 parents who are able to chaperone on our 3 field trips this year. I will be looking at your preference and trying to coordinate so that we have coverage for each field trip. Field Trip Sign-Ups are here: https://forms.gle/NAc4JyvKZR8QdpnE8

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

We have been studying the long “o” spelling pattern, working on text-to-self connections, and reading texts surrounding our new theme “friendship” and looking at what it means to be a good friend to others. Your child was introduced to their reader’s notebook this week and will be using it to record their reading and comprehension work. This week in Writing, we have been continuing with the narrative writing cycle and worked on our Halloween Selfie project.

This Week in Math..

Your child has been using comparison bars and the other strategies we have learned this year to look at various types of word problems. We are working on identifying if we are missing a part or a total as well as identifying the proper label for our answer.

This Week in Chinese…

Your child has been working on their social studies concepts of classroom and classroom community. They are learning about the schedule and subjects we learn in a day, the traits of being a good student, and the vocabulary for how to be diligent in the classroom. We are looking at mentor texts that teach us important phrases that are used in the classroom and examining homonyms that have similar meanings (sit down versus finish your work – 做好/坐好, etc.)

Homework…

Week 7 Homework is due on Thursday (the packet has a misprint and says Friday) and can be found here: https://graceyou.com/mandarin-homework-week-7-2/

The next two weeks of homework are review weeks. They will include the passages and vocabulary that we have learned so far this year. Please help your child study and read as the content that is being sent home is what they will be tested on for their Trimester 1 Mandarin Assessment.

Important Dates:

  • 10/31 – Minimum Day – Dismissal 1pm
  • 11/1 – No School – Teacher Work Day
  • 11/11 – Veteran’s Day – No School

-Ms. You
