Weekly Newsletter for 11/8/19

Dear Room 4 Families,

Your child enjoyed learning about the history of masks and making their own with MOCHA. They will be coming on Friday for 2 more weeks to work on fun art projects with our class. This week we had many exciting events, such as the scooter race and extra recess rewards from our Husky Trot. We have started ELD/ALD and your child will be attending class on regular school days. There will be no ELD/ALD on minimum days. Some students are attending ALD in other classrooms in order to balance out the numbers across other classrooms.

This Week in ELA/Writing…

We started our literature study of Stone Soup, which will end in a celebratory feast on Friday, 12/6. A call for donations and other help will be posted in the upcoming weeks. This week your child has been learning the ‘ea/ee’ spelling pattern, making text to self connections, breaking down compound words, and learning possessive versus plural ‘s’. We have been studying non-fiction books and noticing the different text features. Your child has been going on a text feature scavenger hunt with a partner as they search for different text features in various books.

This Week in Math…

We are in Unit 2, which focuses on place value and adding 2 and 3 digit numbers. This week we have reviewed word problems, learned about place value, learned how to represent our thinking with quick hundreds, tens, and ones/proof drawing, word form, number form, and expanded form. Next week your child will be taking their trimester 1 math benchmark assessment.

This Week in Chinese…

We reviewed the second half of the terms we have learned so far this year. Your child was excited to review vocabulary using different games and classroom activities. We continued with our writing project, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and will finish our books next week. Your child will be taking their trimester test next week and the content will be based off of the reading passages in the last 2 weeks of homework as well as the vocabulary we have learned in trimester 1.
