Dear Room 4 Families,
Happy 100th day of school! Can you believe that we are over halfway the mark already? Your child had a very fun day completing various 100th day activities such as writing down 100 Chinese words that they know, 100 math problems, and reading 100 books together as a class. The class was excited to get a shout out in our afternoon announcements by Ms. Matteis for our collective effort to read 100 books.
As a friendly reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 11th in observance of Lincoln’s Day.
Please check your child’s Friday Folder for their field trip permission slip for the Exploratorium. Make sure to sign all boxes marked with an asterisk (*) and return to school as soon as possible.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! If your child would like to pass out Valentines on Friday, please have them sign their own name on their valentine. In order to expedite delivery in class, please do not address the valentine to each individual student.
This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…
Your child has been working on character traits and inferencing for our comprehension focus. For the rest of the trimester, I will be assessing students for their trimester 2 reading levels and to monitor progress. For the 100th day of school, we wrote thank you letters to people who we are grateful for at Stonebrae and wrote a page in a class book, “I have been told 100 times…” In preparation for our writing assessment, we have been working on writing an All About book. We will finish next week and start on our writing assessment.
This Week in Math…
We have been working on 3-digit subtraction and the various ungrouping situations and strategies, relating 3-digit subtraction to subtracting money, and practicing mixed addition/subtraction equations. Please make sure to look over your child’s work in their Friday Folder and help them correct their mistakes at home.
This Week in Chinese…
We have been learning adjectives and verbs that we can use to describe animals. We are discussing the traits and names of various animals and reviewing vocabulary for our riddle writing unit next week. The next two weeks, we will be reviewing the terms and phrases that we have learned in trimester 2 to prepare your child for their trimester 2 Mandarin assessment.
