Weekly Newsletter for 12/20/13

Dear Room 4 Families,

Our students enjoyed all of the holiday activities that they participated in this week, from kindergarten buddies to our holiday party, book exchange, and craft. Thank you for making the experience possible! I would also like to thank everyone for the wonderful present! It was very thoughtful and I will most definitely be using it all year long 🙂

I am considering purchasing a subscription to a website for homework and Mandarin enrichment. I need your help!! Please give me feedback regarding this activity: http://lingtlanguage.com/takeassignment/1748238758081870/ You will need a computer that is Adobe Flash enabled, speakers/headphones, and a microphone. Have your child sit with you and see if you are able to figure out and complete the task. It should take no more than 5 minutes once the technology is cooperating and you do not need to sign up for an account. Language exposure and practical application/use of Mandarin is the best way to learn a new language and I am continuously seeking better ways for our students to learn. Your feedback is essential. Please submit the activity if you are able, and let me know via e-mail if you were unable to access the practice homework, if you thought it was a worthwhile activity, or if you did not like it. Thank you!

If you would like to participate in the hour of code via Ms. Rubino’s webpage, please visit her website at http://www.msrubino.wikispaces.com and enter HHGOQT when you sign up via the link. If you would like to further explore coding concepts with your child, Light-bot and Kodable are two apps available on the iTunes app store that are age appropriate for 2nd graders.

The dinosaur project is due on Monday,  January 13th. If you have lost the instructions handout, you can find it here: https://graceyou.com/2013/12/16/dinosaur-report-due-monday-11314/ If you need a new booklet, please let me know on the Monday that we return from school.

There is no school for the next two weeks due to winter break. We will return to school on Monday, January 6th. Have a wonderful winter break and happy holidays!
