Weekly Newsletter for 9/4/15

Dear Room 4 Families,

Your child had a great first full week of school! We have continued with establishing routines, behavioral expectations, reviewing some 1st grade skills, and setting the expectations that we will have a good work ethic in the classroom. We sat down and came up with our classroom manifesto, did a project to learn that we are a community that needs to take care of each other’s hearts, and  started switching between Room 7 for our ELA and Mandarin Language Arts time.

This week we started our first center in the Daily 5 literacy centers. Your child has been practicing how to ignore distractions and to focus on their responsibilities. We have been working on our number sense in math as well as building our concepts of 10. Your child has been learning how to work cooperatively with partners and stay focused on their activities. We played many different math games which helped us review and learn how to get along with each other.

Our homework this year will be assigned on Fridays and due back on Friday. We will start our homework packets after the 15th day of school when our rosters are finalized. Today your child was assigned timeline project. Please look for the information sheet in their backpack and help your child with it. There is a portion that is required to be completed in Chinese, of which there are several examples to help you. You may also use the help of an online dictionary to write your sentences. If you can’t find the project information, a copy of it is available here: https://graceyou.com/timeline-project/

For those parents who are not connected on ClassDojo, I strongly encourage you to contact me for an invite code. I have sent out several reminder e-mails and have sent home the invite code in your child’s backpack if you haven’t logged in on the webpage to check your child’s behavior report. I mainly communicate about your child’s behavior and progress through there. You do not need to download the app to your mobile device or tablet, you can simply go to the website and log in.

There is no school on Monday, September 7th, in observance of Labor Day. School resumes on its normal schedule on Tuesday.

The prep schedule is out and may be subject to change. It is listed on the daily schedule.

I hope you have a wonderful 3-day weekend!

-Ms. You
