Weekly Newsletter for 11/6/15

Dear Room 4 Families,

This week we wrapped up our math unit on place value to 100. Your child took a benchmark math test to determine how much they have learned so far this trimester. We will be starting our next unit, which will be geometry, on Monday.

We are still in the middle of our informational “All About” writing unit and creating an all about book for a person that we know well. Your child is brainstorming and learning how to keep their papers organized and gather the materials that they need to create their books. We are learning about 3 types of writing for our books, descriptive, sequential, and comparison.

Parent Teacher Conferences will run from November 30-December 4th. I am currently working with teachers to schedule sibling conferences. Once those have been arranged, I will put up a google document for parents to sign up at their own convenience.

Many students are turning in homework packets that are incomplete and have no parent signature. We have very low completion of our online Chinese homework as well. This has been reflected on your child’s Mandarin work and dictation tests. Please ensure that your child is completing their Mandarin homework in their packet and that they are doing the online portion as well. If you are unable to do it at home, you can arrange a time with me after school to get it done. It is less than 10 minutes of work and is a good way to reinforce what they are learning in the classroom. The links are conveniently provided to you at the end of every newsletter.

Many of the English paragraphs are also not completed satisfactorily. Please make sure your child writes more than one sentence. Encourage them to fill the page with varied sentences that are written properly (subject & predicate) with proper capitalization and punctuation. One or two sentences or a list of words is not acceptable.

Also, our paid Spelling City accounts have been set up! Please look at the post in the ClassDojo class story to figure out what your child’s username and password is.

Next Wednesday, November 11th is Veteran’s Day and there is no school. Please make arrangements accordingly.
