Weekly Newsletter for 2/26/16

Dear Room 4 Families,

This week your child had the opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year with rotations across 2nd and 3rd grade. In Room 4, they got to see a demo from our wonderful room parent Mrs. Lee on how to make 葱油饼 “cong you bing” aka green onion pancakes and even got to try a little sample. If you’d like to make this simple recipe at home, here is a video that explains the process that we learned in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iew9c7wDfgM

For English Language Arts, we are wrapping up our opinion writing unit. We are currently working on the drafting, writing, editing, peer editing, and final draft process. We are also learning about how to critically view an opinion on a controversial subject from different perspectives so that we can understand why people have different opinions than us.

In math, we have been reviewing skills for our math benchmark assessment and taking portions of the test. We will finish up the test next week and start our next unit, which will be regrouping (addition and subtraction) with numbers under 1,000.

Please make sure that you are completing the online portions of the homework, including the Lingt. The online Chinese homework is very important to your child’s success in learning Mandarin.

Also, the YCT test results should be in your child’s backpack. Please take a look at the test results. That copy is for you to keep. I do not have the test results for my class, so if your child has lost their copy, I am unable to tell you their score.

Here are next week’s homework links:

Have a wonderful weekend!

-Ms. You
