Weekly Newsletter for 4/29/16

Dear Room 4 Families,

This week we were busy learning many new things. We have also been working on being good students and peers by being respectful to each other’s learning and having respectful words and actions.

This week in math we have been working on regrouping addition and subtraction with 3-digit numbers, and adding 4 two-digit numbers. Next week we will be starting our unit on measurement and data. Your child may bring a standard 12 inch ruler with centimeters to use in class. Please have them write their name on their rule as many rulers look the same. Any student who is playing with a ruler or using it inappropriately will have their ruler confiscated.

In English language arts, we finished our unit on main idea/details, and compare and contrast. Your child has been learning about and comparing the similarities and differences between different classrooms around the world. We are starting a unit on point of view and we briefly explored the differences between first, second, and third person narration in books. We will continue with point of view in the next 2 weeks, which also includes character’s point of view.

Progress reports were passed out today. The English Language Arts grade is based on your child’s current reading level and the final report card may reflect a different grade based on how they improve during our assessment period. Social studies and Science grades for the progress reports were based on our homework (animal habitat project) and the English portion of our days. For the final report card, the grade may change as it will be assessed in Mandarin and the grade will be based on the homework projects, Mandarin performance, and also the English portions that were covered. Please sign and return your child’s progress report so that I know you saw it. If you’d like to keep your child’s copy, please message me on ClassDojo so I know that you have received it.
