Dear Room 4 Families,
Today your child brought home their permission slip for the Hiller Aviation Museum field trip on Friday, February 3rd. Please read the letter on the front with the schedule and complete the boxes marked with an asterisk. If your child does not have any medical conditions or medications, please put “N/A” or “none” in the field instead of leaving it empty. Field trip permission slips are due next Friday, January 27th.
This week we have been wrapping up our mental math unit and will start addition and subtraction to 1,000. We have been working on our number sense and place value concepts with various games and activities. We are regularly participating in counting collections, where your child learns how to group numbers efficiently and problem solve in partnerships. They record their findings and prove the number of items they have counted.
In English Language Arts, your child has been busy learning how to make text-to-text connections to improve their reading comprehension during our Reader’s Workshop/Guided Reading Center time. Your child works with me in small groups where we work on our reading and comprehension strategies. In Writer’s Workshop, your child is learning how to write an opinion paragraph by picking a focused title, stating a detailed opinion, writing 3 reasons to support their opinion, and writing a closure that restates their opinion. We will be working on adding transition words and the editing/revising process next week.
As a friendly reminder, the Flat Stanley Project is due on Monday, January 23rd. Also, next Tuesday is a minimum day due to professional development. Dismissal will be at 1:00 pm. Please make your after school arrangements accordingly.
