Dear Room 4 Families,

Happy Chinese New Year’s Eve! Today your child celebrated by participating in rotations with the 2nd and 3rd grade teachers. Your child had the opportunity to make crafts, learn about the Chinese zodiac, and experience the festivities that the Chinese participate during New Year’s. Happy year of the rooster!

Next week is our field trip to Hiller Aviation Museum. Please make sure that your child is prepared and at school on time. Due to the field trip being on Friday, the spelling test is moved up to Thursday. Homework packets will still be due on Friday.

Progress reports were sent home today. Please take a look, sign and return to me next week. Reading grades are based off of the reading assessments. Some are not finished yet and will be completed by 2nd trimester report card.

This week in English Language Arts we have been continuing with text connections. This time connecting what is happening in the text to things that we know to be true in the world. I am pulling students to re-assess their reading level and will continue to do so for the next several weeks. In writing, we are learning about the components of an opinion paragraph, including how to write convincing opinions, staying focused with our details, writing a strong closure, and using transition words.

In math, we are working on multiple ways of solving addition problems. We just started using place value strategies and decomposition for adding 2-digit numbers together.

Here are next week’s homework links:

Have a great weekend!

-Ms. You
