Weekly Newsletter for 12/8/17

Dear Room 4 Families,

It was great meeting so many families this week during parent-teacher conferences. Mr. Chen and I are always available to answer any questions or address any concerns that you may have throughout the year and are easily reachable via ClassDojo. This week your child enjoyed listening to the Heritage Doll presentations. We have such a diverse class and everyone loved seeing the different countries that were represented.

Christmas presents are never expected, but always appreciated! Your best gift to me would be to help contribute to the classroom either by donating from the classroom Amazon Wishlist: http://a.co/gL4QKVg, or via gift cards to Amazon or Target.

This week in English Language Arts…

We have been focusing on asking and answering questions from the books that we are reading and seeing if our questions have been answered, and checking in during the middle of our reading to ask more questions. We focused on capitalization for proper nouns and identifying different types of proper nouns (geographic locations, people, holidays, days of the week, product names, etc.) We have also started reading the Flat Stanley series to help generate interest and excitement for our upcoming Flat Stanley project.

This week in Writing…

We are wrapping up our All About unit by picking non-fiction stories and writing all about a topic that we learned by writing a title, an opening sentence, 3 related facts, and a closure.

This week in Math…

We have continued with learning different strategies for addition – regrouping 2 digit numbers. We are also learning how to identify mistakes in example problems and explaining if they were solved correctly or not.

This week in Chinese…

We are learning about different body parts and using them for our weekly writing.
