Dear Room 4 Families,
Happy Chinese New Year! Today is the official beginning of the year of the dog. May this be a year full of blessings and good health. A big thanks to our Room 4 and Room 7 room parents Annette and Brenda for picking up and supplying Krispy Kreme donuts and water for our Valentine’s Day party. Today your child enjoyed Chinese New Year Rotations between the 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms.
We have many minimum days coming up in the following 2 weeks. Please check the schedule carefully to ensure that your child’s after school arrangements are on time. There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 19th, and for the entire rest of the week we will be on a minimum day schedule with dismissal at 1:00pm.
This week in English Language Arts…
We have been learning about how Chinese New Year is celebrated, the cultural traditions, and the history of the Chinese population in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have also been making many connections between ourselves and other books that we have read.
This week in Writing…
We are still in the revising/rough draft phase of our opinion writing as we go back through our writing folders and update our writing with the new things that we have already learned. We will be working on peer-editing and final drafts in the next two weeks as our minimum day schedule allows.
This week in Math…
We finished with estimating with measuring and applied our knowledge of inches and centimeters to word problems. We also have been using what we know about shapes in order to make quilt patterns and rotate the shapes to the proper location to continue the pattern.
This week in Chinese…
Homework…
Many students are not writing the weekly terms in the homework packet according to our directions. We are asking your child to write each word 4 times only and they need to rotate through the 4 color pens/pencils (red, green, blue, black, [repeat]) to write each stroke of the words. It is our goal that your child can write any word, even unfamiliar words, in stroke order automatically and thus the word formation is correct and beautiful.
Week 19 homework has been passed out in your child’s Friday folder. You can view the homework page here: https://sites.google.com/site/17to18chen/homework/week19mandarinhomework
