Weekly Newsletter for 4/13/18

Dear Room 4 Families,

Thank you for the generous donations towards our upcoming field trip to CuriOdyssey on Thursday, May 17th. We have 10 parent chaperons that have signed up to come help. This field trip is part of your child’s research project for the upcoming “All About With Research” unit so your child will be grouped with their research groups so they can take notes and observe their group’s animal. Permission slips and more details will be sent home in May.

Our class could use a few donations towards our prize box. Any new or gently used toys or party favors can be donated. There are a few suggestions of toys that the class tends to like on the Amazon wishlist. Also, there are 3 Flat Stanley books that are not currently in our collection that the class wants to read.  A book donation would be greatly appreciated for the years to come! This week in English Language Arts…

We have been learning the au/aw spelling pattern, homophones, identifying character traits, and looking at story structure/author’s craft.

This week in Writing…

We have been getting busy with writing in preparation for the Spring Writing task next week. We have been working on our final drafts for our personal narrative stories and stretching out moments by adding details, showing how we feel instead of telling, and adding a good beginning and conclusion to our stories.

This week in Math…

We have been focused on word problems and identifying if we need to add or subtract. We are mixing 2-3 addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. Please help your child practice both types of problems.

This week in Chinese…

We finished the 2nd week of the transportation unit. The students have really enjoyed talking about different vehicles and using adjectives to describe them. In writing we’re still celebrating their opinion writing – students really enjoyed listening each other’s opinions. In science, we are continuing our plant life cycle and most students can memorize all the sentences now. Finally, in preparation for the Mandarin Showcase, we’re practicing hard to give you a great show. Don’t miss our performance on Friday, 4/27 at 6pm.

Homework…

Week 26 homework has been distributed in your child’s Friday Folder. You can view the homework page here: https://sites.google.com/site/17to18chen/homework/week26mandarinhomework
