Weekly Newsletter for 4/20/18

Dear Room 4 Families,

Spring has sprung! The weather has been unpredictable so please remember that mornings tend to be cold and afternoons tend to be hot, so dressing your child in layers works the best as they switch between going outside and going indoors.

As a friendly reminder, please kindly turn in your payment and/or return any unwanted pictures from Lifetouch by 5/4.

This week in English Language Arts…

We have been working on homophones, prefixes, ge/dge spelling pattern, plural vs singular, and irregular plural nouns.

This week in Writing…

Your child finished taking the Spring Writing assessment for “small moment” writing and will be finishing up their final drafts before we move onto our next unit, “All About Writing with Research.”

This week in Math…

We have been working with mixed addition/subtraction with and without regrouping. We have also been solving mixed word problems with larger numbers and identifying clues to help us determine if we should add or if we should subtract.

This week in Chinese...

We are down to the last week before the highly anticipated Annual Mandarin Showcase. The students have done an amazing job practicing their self written songs. We look forward to showcasing their hard work and talent to you on Friday, 4/27 at 6pm. Hope to see you all there!

We started the shopping lesson this week and the students enjoyed learning using the newly acquired vocabulary to describe their shopping experiences. In Writing we enjoyed listening to each other’s opinion writing. We started the narrative writing and will dive into the details next week. In science the students have done a great job
memorizing the plant life cycle. We’ll move to social studies next week to learn about a well known female historical figure that had been featured in a Disney movie.
