Dear Room 4 & 7 Families,
We had a great first week of school! Your child has been transitioning into 2nd grade by learning routines, working on community building activities, and learning our school and classroom rules and expectations. We will continue with these types of activities through the first 15 days of school to establish our learning community.
Thank you to the parents who have generously donated classroom supplies and other essentials from the Amazon Wishlist. Donations will benefit both Room 4 and Room 7 students. This year we will be using community supplies in both classrooms to cut down on the transition time between switching classrooms. The Amazon wishlist will be updated throughout the year and can be found here: http://a.co/6VzwKUt

If you haven’t signed up for ClassDojo yet, please let your child’s homeroom teacher know if you need another invite code. We will be using ClassDojo this year for communication and daily behavior reports. It is important to follow up on classroom news and behavior and to let your child know you are checking their report regularly and reinforce your child’s good behavior and discuss how they lost points. A good day is usually around 7-10 points a day. Having the follow through at home helps your child stay motivated, focused, and ready to learn. Most points and comments are entered into ClassDojo by 5pm. There may be notes written on your child’s daily behavior report if there was a specific issue that needed to be addressed.
There is NO SCHOOL on Monday in observance of Labor Day.
Next week will be “Week B” in our switching schedule. This means that your child will start the morning in the other classroom. In order to avoid confusion, the students will never switch lines, the teachers will pick up the appropriate class and bring them to the appropriate classroom. Your child will first put their lunch box in their homeroom lunch cart (be careful to check the number on the cart!) and then place their backpacks neatly in a line on their homeroom number at the playground. Your child will be finishing the day in their homeroom classroom.
This year we have PE prep on Tuesday mornings. Please make sure your child is wearing the appropriate shoes when they come to school.
This week in Chinese, your child reviewed classroom expressions (stand up, bow, hi teacher, goodbye teacher, goodbye classmates, and sit down); greetings (hello, thank you, good bye); numbers (1 – 10); days of the week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday); colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). Every student attempted to make booklets: All About Me and The Little Hungry Caterpillar.
After the Labor Day weekend, we will try to finish The Little Hungry Caterpillar booklet including the transformation of a butterfly and we can start our new materials, MeiZhou Chinese, Level 2, starting Lesson 1 on pictographs.
If you have any questions, please feel free to message me or Ms. Li on Classdojo.
Thank you and have a great 3-day weekend!
-Ms. You & Ms. Li
