Weekly Newsletter for 10/20/18

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

Thank you for supporting our school this Wednesday for our Husky Trot fundraiser! Your child enjoyed participating in our theme and running laps around the field. A big thank you to all of the parents who helped donate their time to ensuring the Husky Trot ran smoothly.

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

We have been working on recounting stories and selecting the most important details in a narrative text. We shared our summaries with our partner after our independent reading time. We wrapped up our narrative writing unit by following the writing process at our own pace and submitted our best piece of work to be put into our writing portfolio. Next week we will be starting on all about books and looking at the text structure and format of non-fiction books.

This Week in Math…

We have focused on learning tricky situations in word problems, including tricky phrasing, repeated addition (multiplication concepts), two-step, missing information, and extra information. We will be taking the math benchmark assessment soon once we wrap up our word problem unit next week.

This Week in Chinese…

In Mandarin class, we continue to work on the routines and learned about the story of “Mother Bird’s Egg was Missing” and reviewed Lesson 2 through games, e.g. Snake and Ladder, Bingo, silent ball, and board game.
