Weekly Newsletter for 10/26/18

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

Thank you for all of the donations towards our Halloween celebration! Your child is excited to do crafts and enjoy a snack with us next Wednesday. Please make sure to check your child’s Friday folder for important documents and for the Halloween costume guidelines if your child chooses to wear their costume to school. They are committed to wearing it all day if they choose to wear it. We do not have enough space in the bathroom for all of the students to change in and out of their costumes.

The Halloween craftivities will be held at 9:10-10:10am and from 12:00-1:00pm for Room 7 and Room 4. Please DO NOT send any random candies/goody bags to school without consulting me first. There are many different allergies and we want to keep our kids safe!

Please make sure to fill out the form, even if you are not finished with your fingerprinting, etc. so that I can include you when I submit the authorization form next week.

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

We have been working on making text to self connections in various fiction books. In writing, we have started our “all about” writing and have chosen our topics to write about as a class. We are learning about text features and how to research and paraphrase important facts on our note taking sheet. We will be taking our notes and learning how to put them into a paragraph with a topic sentence, 3 sentences, and a conclusion sentence that restates the topic sentence.

This Week in Math…

We finished our first unit of word problems and solved different types of word problemx that were mixed together. We will be revisiting word problems throughout the year as the numbers get bigger. We took our trimester 1 math benchmark test this week and the results will be available for you to view during parent-teacher conferences in December.
