Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Thank you for all the generous donations towards our Halloween celebration. Your child had a fun day at school on Wednesday and enjoyed making crafts and watching a short Halloween film.
If you have a last minute Scholastic Book Order to submit, please order online before I place our group order on Monday. The link is here: https://orders3.scholastic.com/J9VJR
Kids A-Z (Formerly known as Raz-Kids) account information has been sent home in your child’s Friday Folder. You do not need to make a parent account, however it is useful to monitor your child’s progress and see areas of strength and weakness. You can sign up directly and do not need to fill out and return the form unless you want me to manually type in your e-mail address to generate an invitation.
Field Trip Update!
Great news everybody! I checked with transportation and there was a last minute cancellation, so it seems like we may be able to take a school bus to CuriOdyssey. I will keep everyone updated about the progress and I will send home a donation letter for families who are able to help us cover the cost of the bus (around $400 for both classes). The letter will ask for general donations and anything extra will be put towards classroom supplies, crafts, and events.
This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…
Your child has been working on text to self connections in the books they have self-selected to read during their Reader’s Workshop time. They are sharing the connects they have made with a partner and with the class. Room 7 students have started learning how to use the iPads for reading and will work with me in small groups to learn how to log in and use our technology properly. In writing, we are continuing with our All About Books by drafting our sloppy copies and working on a table of contents.
This Week in Math…
We started Unit 2 and will be working with bigger numbers. This week we have been learning place value strategies, expanded form, and learning how our math facts 0-20 help us add tens. We are also continuing to review the different types of word problems we have learned this year with answers between 1-20. Word problems will get harder and involve bigger numbers as the year progresses.
