Dear 2nd Grade Families,
Thank you for your contributions towards our upcoming Stone Soup celebration. Your child has been participating in a literature study of the story as this folktale travels through different countries and periods of time. We have been using the literature study to summarize, make connections, and also to compare and contrast the different versions of the story. If you have not had a chance to fill out the information slip, please make sure to complete it and send it back to school so we are aware of any dietary needs for your child.
This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…
We have been working on our Stone Soup literature study and focusing on comparing and contrasting the different versions we have read so far. We are keeping track of the information on a graphic organizer to use next week when we compare and contrast by ourselves. In writing, we have been working on our All About books and are working on diagrams and labels. We also learned what a dedication is in a book and how to write one for our own.
This Week in Math…
We have started learning concepts for adding two 2-digit numbers and started learning how to regroup tens and hundreds. We have started by learning proof drawings and show all totals. We learn the basic algorithm (new groups above/below) last so that your child can learn the concepts behind forming a new group and assign meaning to the place value. Many of these problems are set up in word problems so that they can continue to practice their fluency in deciphering these types of problems.
This Week in Chinese…
