Dear 2nd Grade Families,
A big thank you is in order for all of our wonderful parents who came together to help make Stone Soup a fun event for our students. Our room parents have been working tirelessly to coordinate and make sure everything ran smoothly today. All of your donations of time and materials are greatly appreciated. Today we also had rehearsal for our Winter Concert, which will take place at the PTA pancake breakfast on Saturday (12/1). The dairy cow came to visit the school and your child learned about the parts of a cow and how a cow is milked.
Next week is parent-teacher conferences. Monday through Thursday are on a minimum day schedule with dismissal at 1pm. There is no school on Friday. Please make sure to check the google doc for your appointment. We will try our best to stay on schedule. unfortunately the conferences are scheduled back to back, so if you arrive past your scheduled appointment time will need to reschedule for another day.
As a reminder, the heritage doll project is due on Monday, 12/3 and students will be presenting throughout the week.
This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…
We finished our All About writing books and will be working on a writing assessment next week. All students have been put into leveled reading groups and have been learning how to transition into different literacy centers while I pull students and small groups to work with me.
This Week in Math…
We have been working on various strategies for adding 2 digit numbers together with regrouping. This week we started learning how to add large groups of money and how to represent problems involving money and the strategies involved that help us add together multiple numbers. You can help your child with this by counting handfuls of change, review the name and value of a coin, counting on by 5’s and 10’s from a random number, and continuing to add larger numbers.
This Week in Chinese…
In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; time and currency. We practiced our MeiZhou Chinese, Level 2, and started Lesson 4 about “Making a Joke” and “Guessing a Riddle.” We practiced the passage/story and lesson 4 week 1 and 2 vocabulary words and phrases in class. We did the bell work, watched the story, and read picture books as well as played academic games, sang songs, and practice characters.
