Dear 2nd Grade Families,
It was nice to meet everyone at parent-teacher conferences this week. Please feel free to continue communicating with us regarding any questions, comments, or concerns that you may have. We want to do our best to help your child be successful. If you were unable to make your appointment this week, please contact your child’s teacher to reschedule.
This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…
We have been working on our literacy rotations. I have been pulling small groups to coach on comprehension skills and phonics based on your child’s reading level. In writing, we finished our Winter writing task for all about books.
This Week in Math…
Since we were on a minimum week schedule, we did not get very far in our math lessons due to the writing test. Your child is currently working on concepts involving money, such as conversion (4 quarters = 1 dollar), representing money, identifying coins and their value, and how to add multiple coins.
This Week in Chinese…
In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions, time, and currency. We practiced our MeiZhou Chinese, Level 2, and started Lesson 5 about “Please Open the Door,” a modified version of the Little Red Ridinghood. The passage and lesson 5 week 1 vocabulary words and phrases in class were introduced. We did the bell work, watched the story overhead, read picture books, practiced making complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, and practice character strokes. A mystery science mini-lesson was introduced as well as learning the key terms in Mandarin.
