Dear 2nd Grade Families,
The flu season is going around! Please remind your child to wash their hands, to not put their hands in their mouths, and to cover their coughs and sneezes! The flu is very contagious, so if your child is feeling ill, running a fever, etc. please allow them to fully recover at home.
This Week in English Language Arts…
We have been working on ai spelling patterns, synonyms/antonyms, author’s purpose, proper nouns, and using commas in a list. We have been reading in small groups during our reading centers to work on reading strategies and fluency. In writing we started a short unit on poetry and have been studying different types of poems to try to figure out the patterns, rhyming, rhythm, figurative speech, and what the poem is trying to describe. We are writing our own poems in a poetry book.
This Week in Math..
We have been working on adding groups of money and also strategies for adding 3 and 4 2-digit numbers together.
This Week in Chinese…
In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions, time, and currency. We practiced our MeiZhou Chinese, Level 2, and started Lesson 5 about “Please Open the Door,” a modified version of the Little Red Ridinghood. The passage and lesson 5 week 1 vocabulary words and phrases in class were introduced. We did the bell work, watched the story overhead, read picture books, practiced making complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, and practice character strokes. A mystery science mini-lesson was introduced as well as learning the key terms in Mandarin.
