Weekly Newsletter for 3/1/19

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

This minimum day passed by so quickly! This week your child completed the trimester 2 math. I have also been pulling students to re-assess their reading levels. On Friday, we were invited to walk through Mr. Schumann’s classroom for a gallery walk of their timeline projects.

There was an error in the Week 22 homework packet and the Week 21 pages were repeated again. I apologize for this oversight. I have attached the correct pages to the newsletter post on ClassDojo and a hard copy of the correct pages will be passed out to your child on Monday.

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

We have been working on making inferences in the various texts that we are reading. We are also studying the oi/oy dipthong spelling. For writing, we are writing several sloppy copy rough drafts and starting to revise. We will continue to draft, revise, edit, and publish our writing next week.

This Week in Math…

After finishing our trimester 2 math assessment, we have been working on subtracting two-digit numbers and identifying when to ungroup a ten and move it into the ones place using the standard algorithm (borrowing a ten).

This Week in Chinese…

In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions; shapes, time; and currency. We reviewed some math concepts in Chinese and introduced Lesson 8 including vocabulary, phrases, and the passage in class. We did the bell work, read picture books, practiced character strokes, tried to make complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, learned mini-lessons from mystery science, and their scientific terms in Mandarin. We made booklets and continued to discover new things about Chinese culture and tradition.
