Weekly Newsletter for 5/3/19

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

It was great seeing everyone at Open House this week. If you have any photos to share, please send them to me via e-mail or ClassDojo. Thank you for getting the field trip permission forms and class book orders in promptly. If your child has not returned their field trip permission slip by next Friday, May 10th, they will not be able to attend the field trip and will spend their day in Room 18 with Ms. Chiu.

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

Your child has been learning about prefixes and suffixes, spelling rules for suffixes, measure words, and contractions. This week your child has been comparing/contrasting important details from non-fiction texts independently. In writing, we have started researching for our pages for the class book we are writing and working on our sloppy copies.

This Week in Math…

We started a new unit on adding/subtracting 3-digit numbers. This week we are reviewing place value concepts, expanded form, adding on past the next 100, adding to the 10’s place, and reviewing 2-digit addition and subtraction.

This Week in Chinese…

In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions; shapes, time; and currency. We reviewed some math concepts in Chinese and continued with Lesson 9 including vocabulary, phrases, dialogs, the story and the passage in class. We did the bell work, read digital books, practiced character strokes, tried to make complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, learned lessons from mystery science, and their scientific terms in Mandarin. We continued to learn about the earth day, read stories about Chinese culture and tradition.
