Weekly Newsletter for 5/10/19

Dear Room 4 Families,

Thank you for all of the notes and gifts this week! I feel very appreciated! This week your child has been writing with so much endurance as we finished up our Unique Animals of the World book and sent it in for publishing. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the books will arrive just in time before the end of the school year.

Our field trip to CuriOdyssey is next Thursday. Please keep an eye out on ClassDojo for important reminders and information regarding our upcoming trip.

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

We have been focusing on possessive and plural ‘S’, compound words, and -ow/ou spelling patterns. Most of our time this week was going through the final drafts for our class book and getting everything organized to be sent in to the publisher. Your child had a great time experiencing all of the work that goes into getting a book published.

This Week in Math..

We have started learning various strategies for adding 3-digit numbers including new groups above, new groups below, show all totals, and using a proof drawing. We will continue with 3-digit addition and subtraction next week.

This Week in Chinese…

In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions; shapes, time; and currency. We reviewed some math concepts in Chinese and continued with Lesson 9 including vocabulary, phrases, dialogs, the story and the passage in class. We did the bell work, read digital books, practiced character strokes, tried to make complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, learned lessons from mystery science, and their scientific terms in Mandarin. We continued to learn about the earth day, read stories about Chinese culture and tradition.
