Weekly Newsletter for 5/17/19

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

Your child had an amazing time at CuriOdyssey yesterday! We made the best of the rain, explored the inside area, learned about birds of prey, and researched for our animal reports. As the year is coming to and end, we will be working on our final assessments, ending our units, and doing end of the year wrap-up activities.

This Week in English Language Arts…

I am assessing for the last round of reading levels before the end of Trimester 3. We have been studying double consonant patterns for -ing suffix, abbreviations, and possessive versus plural. In writing, we have paired up with partners and randomly selected an animal to research at CuriOdyssey. We will continue our research on the iPads and start our rough drafts next week.

This Week in Math…

We are learning multiple strategies for adding and subtracting numbers up to 1,000. Please help your child by looking through their math homework carefully.

This Week in Chinese…

In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions; shapes, time; and currency. We reviewed some math concepts in Chinese and continued with Lesson 10 including vocabulary, phrases, dialogs, and the passage in class. We did the bell work, read digital books, practiced character strokes, tried to make complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, learned mini-lessons from mystery science, and their scientific terms in Mandarin. We continued to learn about holidays, read stories about Chinese culture and tradition
