Weekly Newsletter for 5/24/19

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

This week your child enjoyed watching the 6th grade egg drop and talking about each student had carefully engineered the packaging for their egg to keep it safe. They love seeing other student work and supporting each other. Week 33 is the last official homework packet for the school year. Keep your eyes peeled for any possible Mandarin homework assigned by Ms. Li for an end of the year project.

As a friendly reminder, there is No School on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Enjoy your 3-day weekend!

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

We have been continuing with irregular past tense, irregular plural nouns, main idea, and -an/in spelling patterns. Your child has been busy researching about their field trip animal and gathering information from multiple sources. They have started on their rough drafts for their animal brochure and will continue with their final drafts next week.

This Week in Math…

We have continued on with 3-digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. Your child learned how to grouping from 1,000 and also check their work by using the opposite equation. We will finish up with this unit with mixed addition/subtraction review and start into multiplication and division concepts next.

This Week in Chinese…

In our Mandarin class, we continue to reinforce the class and school expectations, routines and procedures; classroom expressions; numbers; days of the week; directions; shapes, time; and currency. We reviewed some math concepts in Chinese and continued with Lesson 10 including vocabulary, phrases, dialogs, the passage and the story in class. We did the bell work, read digital books, practiced character strokes, tried to make complete sentences as well as played academic games, sang songs, learned mini-lessons from mystery science, and their scientific terms in Mandarin. We continued to learn about festivals, read stories about Chinese culture and tradition.
