Weekly Newsletter for 12/12/19

Dear Room 4 Families,

It was great seeing everyone at Winterfest last weekend! This week was very short due to the minimum day schedule. Your child was excited to listen to heritage doll presentations and learn about the different cultures that represent our classroom. If your child has not finished their project, they can turn it in next week.

This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…

We started reading Flat Stanley, His Original Adventure and made our own Stanleys to go on an adventure with over Winter Break. The Flat Stanley Project will be assigned next week. We are studying the -ow/oa spelling pattern. Your child is continuing to make text connections across the new literature we are reading in class. Our new essential question is, “What is important about being a family?” In writing, your child is learning how to select relevant facts about a specific topic from non-fiction books and paraphrasing them into their own words.

This Week in Math…

We are learning strategies to add 2, 3, and 4 addends. This week we focused on how we can efficiently solve problems and maintain accuracy, double checking our work, and making sure that we are writing neatly. Showing work in a neat and organized manner is very important when working out longer problems because it prevents careless mistakes.

This Week in Chinese…

We have been learning about body parts, comparison words, and new sentence structures. We are also learning about opposites (ie. long/short, big/small, black/white, etc.) Your child enjoyed playing many games to help build vocabulary and review the other terms we have learned this school year.
