Dear Room 4 Families,
Thank you for the abundance of joy this holiday season! I appreciate all of the thoughtful gifts, cards, and well-wishes I’ve received this week. A big thank you to the families that brought treats and gifts to pass out to the students throughout the week. The class was delighted! I hope everyone has a wonderful winter break with your family and loved ones…and of course, Flat Stanley as well!
This week your child enjoyed doing winter and holiday themed activities. They watched the intermediate grade students perform their orchestra, band, and ensemble pieces. They ended the week with a few snacks and a craft party with Ms. Yates.
This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…
We have been studying the soft and hard ‘g’ sound, reading about Flat Stanley’s adventures, and reviewing the grammar that we have learned this year. Your child has started to “write about reading” in the form of a letter to their teacher in their reader’s notebook. This activity will be repeated weekly so your child can continue to reflect and grow as introspective readers. This week in writing, we have been learning how to organize 3 relevant facts about a non-fiction topic.
This Week in Math…
We started our next unit on measurement. This week your child learned about a ruler and how to measure in centimeters. We will continue this unit in January with inches, feet, yards, and estimating distances.
This Week in Chinese…
We are learning about verbs and sports. Your child is learning which verb to use with each sport (hit, kick, ride, no verb needed) and explaining which sports they know or do not know how to play. Your child also created a funny face and wrote a paragraph to describe how it looks using the vocabulary that we have learned this year.
