Dear Room 4 Families,
Your child had an incredibly fun week at Hiller Aviation and enjoying Lunar new year activities. Thank you to all of the parents who contributed towards the enriching experiences for our class.
This Week in English Language Arts/Writing…
We have been continuing with our non-fiction “all about” unit and learning about different text features. Your child has been enjoying listening to different Flat Stanley books and using comprehension strategies to help understand the text. In writing, we have learned the last step of our all about writing and are working on completing paragraphs about topics that they know about by using the writing process.
This Week in Math…
Your child has been working with identifying, counting/adding money, and writing in both cents and dollar decimal form. We worked on counting handfuls of change and coming up with different combinations of coins to total a dollar. Please continue to practice identifying, counting, and other problems involving money. Many students are still having trouble identifying the name and value of various coins.
This Week in Chinese…
Your child has been learning about pets and describing different animals as we learn about the 12 zodiac animals for Chinese New Year. We have been reading stories about the race for the zodiac, learning about the Nian monster, learning various sayings for the new year, and completing crafts to celebrate the year of the rat.
