Weekly Newsletter for 4/13/20

Dear Room 4 Families,

Thank you so much for your understanding and patience these past few weeks. As previously mentioned, HUSD has launched their distance learning plan. The requirements and changes that have been implemented are as follows:

  1. Teachers will assign students 10 hours of work per week of school.
  2. Work will be assigned and collected digitally.
  3. Trimester 3 report card grades will be credit/no credit based on the assignments collected.
  4. The teacher will take weekly attendance. Families must make contact at least once a week for their child to be counted in attendance. This can be turning in class work, sending a message, e-mail, or phone call. Please make sure that all assignments are turned in no later than Friday at 12pm each week to be included in the weekly attendance. (updated – students need to turn in work/proof of learning every week to be included in the weekly attendance)

I understand that each family has a different situation at home. I am trying my best to balance out the requests and needs from our class. I will be posting the distance learning plan for Room 4 weekly. Some of the activities can be substituted for something similar if it is difficult for your family to access at home, or if you feel like your child’s individual need is better met in a different way.

On the distance learning plan, I have a section that outlines which activities need to be submitted for credit. I have tried to keep this part short so that there is less work for the parents. If you find the distance learning plan overwhelming for your situation at home, please focus on your family. Try your best to help your child complete the required assignments to turn in, have your child read every day, and check in with me weekly for attendance.

There have been some requests for worksheets, however there are also households that do not own printers. I will be uploading the homework packet every week on Classdojo. If you would prefer to skip some (or all) of the digital resources, you can substitute them for their equivalent in the homework packet. This is also an option if you were looking for additional work to practice at home. You do not need to turn in every page to me. To turn in for credit, all I need to see are the completed assignments checked off on the cover sheet and a parent signature.

There were also some parents that were requesting Zoom lessons. At this time, I will be holding a Zoom check in on Fridays. I would like to use this time for students to present their work and share with their classmates.

If you have any specific questions, you can always message me. I will be keeping office hours weekly on Wednesdays at 11:00am-12:00pm and Fridays at 1:00pm to 2:00pm if you would like to speak with me directly.
