Weekly Newsletter for 3/30/17

Dear Room 4 Families,

There is no school tomorrow, March 31st in observance of Cesar Chavez day. This week we have been getting ready for some upcoming assessments. We will have the YCT (Youth Chinese Test) on Tuesday, April 18th. Please make sure your child is well rested and is at school on time in the morning. We are also preparing for the English and Mandarin Spring writing tasks. When we return from Spring Break (April 10-14), we will be rehearsing for the Mandarin Showcase performance on Friday, April 21st from 6-7pm.

Next week is Spirit Week. Here are the themes if your child would like to participate:

Monday: Fight Cancer/Wear Pink
Tuesday: Spirit Week – Mathletes (Nerd) vs Athletes (Athletic Gear)
Wednesday: Cowboy Day
Thursday: Throwback Thursday (1980’s or previous decades)
Friday: Pajama Day

There is no school tomorrow 3/31/17 in observance of Cesar Chavez Day. I will be out of the country for the next 2 weeks. Please address any immediate questions or concerns to the office during this time.  There will be no newsletter next week.

There will be no homework passed out next Friday so that your child can focus on their Science Fair project over Spring Break and the week we are back to school. The Science Fair project is due on Tuesday, April 25.

This week in English Language Arts we are focusing on making inferences, character traits, the moral/lesson of the story, and applying what we have learned on close reads. In writing, we are continuing with our narrative writing by adding dialogue, descriptive details, and doing self and peer editing.

In math, we are wrapping up 2 -digit addition strategies with regrouping and will be starting on 2-digit subtraction strategies with regrouping next week. We will revisit addition and subtraction strategies with larger numbers after Spring Break.
